Guitar Student Resources

An online metronome
For all of you students with Internet access, no more excuses! Here is an online metronome which cannot be lost, broken, or eaten by the family pet.
Online Guitar Tuner
Here's another tuning resource for my six string students.

Things to Consider

Vegan Outreach
My good friend Jon Camp works with this cutting edge organization to educate the public on exactly what goes in to the meat that you eat. Though I was reluctant to try it myself for quite sometime, Jon's patience and passion for animals stuck with me and eventually got me seeing things in a whole new light. Check it out, it may very well change your life. It did for me!
Try Veg
Just because an animal lacks the ability to express their self with formalized verbal communication and say, "Hey, would you please not electrocute me, cut my head off, skin me and eat me," does not mean that they're not feeling that way. Even if you eat animals, you may find some very disturbing facts about how those animals are kept and prepared before you go ingesting them. Not only that, eating veg, even occasionally, not only reduces suffering for our fellow planetary inhabitors, it's also a very green thing to do! Check out this site and read up.

Because I feel so strongly about this, and because I am so sure that if you open your mind just a little bit towards it that you will enjoy it so much, I will give a free CD or correspondence guitar lesson to anyone who gives it a try. (New or current students both qualify. Current vegetarians do not - but your contributions are already greatly appreciated!) Just send me a pic of the current contents of your fridge with your meat in sight (the packaged meat in the actual fridge - just to be clear) and one of you eating your veggie meal. Offer good until August 31, 2008.
ASPCA
The Dojo fully supports the efforts of this fantastic organization who not only rescues animals from torture and hellish conditions, but works to give them a better life whenever and wherever possible.

Just a click a day can help feed some of our furrier (and sometimes not so furrier) fellow beings.

Some Great Music to Check Out!

Mike Przygoda
One of my former students and quite the man about town in the Chicago music scene. Mike gave me the honor of playing on "Gruenwald Boogie" on his newest album "Leaving Here". Definitely go check out this guy!
Mephisto
"Mephisto's goal since day one has been to create black metal that screeches darkness and screams brutality, while still being free to explore all of the other genres of metal that interest them."
Valafar was a guitar student of mine back at Libertyville Music back in the day. For those of you in to black metal, you'll definitely dig this straight away. For those of you not, keep an open mind and check out these guys. The guitar solo on "End of Days" totally rips!
A Thousand Years
This is a one man show on this album (something I can appreciate!). One of my favorite albums, hands down. As Greg (the one man band I referred to) puts it think “David Gilmour meets Brian Eno”.
The Bloodline Blues Band
I've worked in some way, shape, and/or form with these guys MANY times over the years. It was always a good time (especially the time we opened for .38 Special). If you're in the area, definitely go take in a Bloodline show. Old School Blues at it's finest.
The Alien Music Club
Jon from AMC doesn't always do all of it himself, but he does as much as he can! Great stuff that ranges from the Kinks to Dave Brubeck.

Ninja Non-Enemies

Moonroom Recording
When I need someone to do the recording for me, there aren't many that I'd trust to get the job done. Steve "Don't Ever Call Me Ken" Jansen is undoubdtedly the man with the tools and experience that I can trust to get the job done on time and in budget. His site also features a number of recording ideas and all sorts of info that you may find helpful with your recording projects.
Theatre of The Mindless
As they say, it is FULL COLOR OLD TIME RADIO!! Very, very cool. If you ever get the chance, go take in a TotM show! And make sure to pay in quarters!
Return to Castle Grayskull
One of the many splendid and thought provoking films from my friends at Four Leaf Clover Movie Productions.
Alan E. Jones Atty. at Law
"General counsel to creative and productive people and their businesses." He also teaches Hegelian Philosophy and is in charge of the sheep dip (just kidding).
